Dear Parents and Carers,
It was wonderful to see so many of our fathers, grandfathers and special people at our Father’s Day breakfast. Everyone enjoyed the gourmet bacon and egg rolls prepared and cooked by our chefs Mark Chifley and Richard Bunn and the wonderful St Bede’s staff who arrived at school early to assist. This was followed by a beautiful liturgy presented by Kinder, Year 1 and Year 2. Thank you to Shaye Cooper for her organisation of the liturgy assisted by Bridget Bradley, Wanda Wolfe and Sarah Jebb. What a wonderful way to celebrate and acknowledge all the special things that you do for your children and the St Bede’s community.
St. Bede’s uniform is distinctive and sets our school apart in the community. The manner in which our uniform is worn, conveys a great deal about who we are as a community and how we value and respect the school to which we belong. Students wear black shoes to school with their full school uniform and joggers with their sports uniform. Parents, we would appreciate it if you could assist us to ensure the children are correctly attired. It is important that staff, students and families work together to ensure that our school uniform is worn with pride and that we adhere to the list of uniform requirements.
Recently, Ava Bernardoff, sister of (Kitty Year 2) lost her guinea pig. It was found and returned to Ava by some of our Year 6 students-Gordon, Matthew and Ethan. The boys took it upon themselves to find out who owned the guinea pig, knocked on the Bernardoff’s door and found the owner. What a relief for Ava and the family and a lovely, kind deed to do. We are so proud of the boys and the story was also on the front page of the Braidwood Bugle. They did not ask for any reward or fuss but we are certainly making sure they are recognised for their thoughtfulness. This is Ava’s story of what happened:
OUR PET GUINEA PIG by Ava Bernardoff (5 years old) 4 September 2023
"Lightning is our pet Guinea Pig. Oh, let’s get started on the story. One day we were going to school and we went to feed Lightning, but he was GONE!
Then we went to look in his bed. But it was empty. We looked for him everywhere. In all the bushes. My friend Sunny even came to look too. Then we went to school.
The next day, we still hadn’t found him. And the next day we still hadn’t found him. And the next. Dad wasn’t looking for him. He was too busy looking for a tool that he couldn’t find.
I was very worried about Lightning. I thought he had got stolen by a burglar. Or a dog or a cat or an eagle. We had given up hope.
The next day when we were doing craft some boys came along and knocked on the door and said “Hey, is that your guinea pig over near the drainpipe?” It was Lightning! He was alive and healthy without a scratch. The boys had found him on their fishing trip and thought he was a strange bunch of orange grass.
I really love Lightning so I am very happy to have him home. He ate a big carrot and fell asleep.
The end.
PS. When we were doing gardening, I found Dad’s tool."
Have a fantastic weekend!
God bless
Marylou,
Principal, St Bede's School
Hello everyone,
This week we have welcomed the beginning of spring. The weather has been warmer, days longer and all around us new life is blooming. If we were in the Northern Hemisphere, spring would be coinciding with Lent and Easter, of which we know the symbol of new life is such a strong and important theme.
Sacramental Program
This weekend we are looking forward to joining 8 of our Year 3 children as they make the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Thank you for Cathy Ffrench and Ann Tracey who have given up their time on Saturday evenings to prepare the students for the sacrament.
Parents - please ensure your child arrives by 5:20pm this Saturday 9th September, we will begin at 5:30pm. All parishioners and community members are invited to attend.
Key Leaders Day
On Friday in Week 6 Mrs Gorham and myself attended a key leaders day run by the CE in Canberra. We spent the day discussing a key document published by the Australian Catholic Bishop's Conference about discipleship and how Catholic schools are places of Evangelisation. In addition to this, we also welcomed the new Church theme for 2023-2024, The Year of the Holy Spirit. A prayer card has been sent home with your children this week, take time to share in this prayer together and discuss the theme for the year.
Br Brian Farewell
Tomorrow a note will be coming home with further details about Br Brian's farewell coming up on the afternoon of Tuesday 19th September. Please keep an eye out for this note and return the RSVP as soon as possible.
Have a lovely week and enjoy this lovely weather before a potential cold snap greets us for the weekend!

If you are paying by BPAY, please ensure you are using the new BPAY numbers. These details are found on the top right and bottom left of the emailed statements.
Parents please note that St Bede's is a Nut Free school and as such the sharing of any food, lollies or confectionery is not encouraged, as we have several students that have severe reactions. Therefore Nutella, Peanut Butter and any other nut butters are strongly discouraged.
Well done to our amazing skippers who have raised a total of $2010 and skipped for over 19 hours. There’s only 2 weeks left in the program for this year, so keep on skipping and working hard – we may just get to our target of $5000 yet!

Leo E (Kinder) - $316
Lachie G (Kinder) - $225
MacKillop Rugby
Recently Oscar (Year 6) travelled to Camden to compete for MacKillop in the NSW Primary School Sport rugby championships. Oscar and his team played extremely well to make the semi-finals after 4 days of competition against 12 other teams. MacKillop finished in 4th place.
The competition was also a selection process for the NSW Primary Schools team, with Oscar successfully gaining a place in the team – what an outstanding achievement! Oscar is the first St Bede’s student to be selected in a NSW state team for any sport. Congratulations! He now heads to Sydney at the end of the term to play with his new team. Good luck and play well – we can’t wait to hear more about your rugby exploits in the future!
Oscar also plays in the under 13 team for Trinity college Goulburn. Last weekend Oscar won player of teh match in the grand final. Congratulations Oscar!
Footy Tipping
…And just like that the NRL regular season and footy tipping is over! We have a new St Bede’s Tipping Competition champion – congratulations to Tim Thistleton who led for a fair chunk of the season and held his nerve to take out the coveted trophy. A fast finish from Buschi has move them up into second place, with Beck Thistleton and the Haraldsons taking out the final spots on the podium. Thanks to everyone who participated in this year’s competition – we’ll be back again next year!
