On Tuesday we farewelled Br Brian Berg from our St Bede's community. Br Brian has been very involved in our school for over 12 years. He attended our school events, liturgies and assemblies, and assisted with the Sacramental programs. Br Brian will be sorely missed by staff, students and parents. Our parting gift was to name the new K-2 classroom block the ‘Brother Brian Berg Wing’. The staff and students also dressed in black and orange in support of Brother Brian’s favourite football team, the West Tigers. God bless Br Brian!
Thank you to those who spoke at our assembly and shared some of our favourite memories - Stella (Year 6) and Amanda (Community Council Chair). Thank you to Trish and Kristi for making cupcakes for all the students. Thank you to Anthony for organising the plaque for the classroom on behalf of the Community Council.
Tomorrow, we farewell Mark Chifley who has been Assistant Principal of St Bede's School since 2022. Whilst Mark has been here for a short period of time, he has made an enormous impact within our school community and he will be sorely missed by staff, students and parents. We thank Mark for his contribution to St Bede's and we wish him all the best at his new school, St Clare's College Griffith ACT next term. Everyone is welcome to come to our assembly tomorrow at 2:45pm to say farewell and thank you to Mark.
This week, it was announced that our new Assistant Principal is Ms Amy Doszpot. Amy is currently the Assistant Principal of St Joseph's Primary School O'Connor ACT. Today, Amy visited St Bede's and received a very warm welcome from staff and students. Amy will commence at St Bede's in term 4. We welcome Amy to St Bede's and we look forward to her joining our community.
Congratulations to Mrs Bridget Bradley who is our Religious Education Coordinator. Bridget has been acting in this position this year and is now permanent. Bridget is doing a fantastic job as REC working with teachers and the parish.
Congratulations to Mrs Sarah Jebb who has been successful with obtaining a permanent teaching position at St Bede's. Sarah commenced teaching earlier this term in Year 1 as a replacement for Mrs Cherie Kilburn. We are very excited to have Sarah join our team.
Yesterday we conducted Learning Journeys in our classrooms. It was wonderful to see so many parents attend to see the progress that their children are making with their learning. We are extremely proud of the standard of work the students are achieving and are very grateful to our talented and dedicated teachers and Classroom Support Assistants. Recently, we welcomed two additional Classroom Support Assistants to our staff, Mrs Nadja Kelly and Mrs Shannon Harrison.
Our new classrooms and front office are almost finished. We will be moving into our new spaces early next term and are hoping parents will be able to assist with the move. The next stage of the building will soon commence, which is the refurbishment of the existing office and the Year 5 and 6 classrooms. Parents, if you are in Braidwood during the holidays, it would be fantastic if you could do a walk through, especially after 4pm or on the weekends when the builders are not here. If you notice any vandalism, please report it immediately to either Richard Bunn on 0427633184 or Amanda Vardanega on 0427011579.
Have a fantastic holiday and enjoy your time with family and friends. We look forward to seeing all our students and families at St Bede's on Tuesday, October 10. Children have the option to wear either summer or winter uniform until week 2.
God bless
Marylou,
Principal, St Bede's School
Dear Parents and Carers,
Farewells
This week we officially farewell Brother Brian from the St Bede's school community. On Tuesday we shared a lovely lunch with the staff, some members of our Community Council and special guests. Following this Br Brian was presented with his gift, the naming of our new building in his honour, "The Brother Brian Berg Wing". Br Brian will always have a special place in our heart and in the school for generations to come. Br Brian has been a very special member of the school community, providing strength, support and an unwavering connection between our school and parish communities. We wish him all the best in his move to Sydney.
Sadly, Father Mick also finished up last weekend due to ill health. Father Mick spoke very fondly of his time in the Braidwood/Bungendore/Gundaroo Parish. The children have all signed a card this week farewelling Father Mick. In the meantime, Father Tony Percy from Queanbeyan and Father Joshua Scott will support the parish.
Tomorrow, we say goodbye to a 'marked' favourite, Mr Chifley. Mr Chifley has been a great colleague to work with, his enthusiasm and sense of humour will be greatly missed by all staff and students. We wish "Mr Chimney" all the best in his newest adventure as Assistant Principal at St Clare's College in Canberra. We have footy colours day tomorrow for a gold coin donation. All money is going towards fr Mick's Timor L'Este project.
Vinnies DARE Program
Today, Year 5 participated in the DARE program provided by St Vincent De Paul. We welcomed Sharkie from the Education and Youth team into the classroom for the day. The children participated in activities around the themes of strengths, values, relationships and emotions. We look forward to welcoming the team back in the future to support some other grades in our school.
REC Retreat
Last week I attended an REC retreat at Galong. The focus for the retreat was slowing down and reflecting on the corporal and spiritual works of mercy, particularly in our school communities. As we reach the end of the term and you and your family have a chance to slow down over the holidays, I encourage you too to take some time out in nature, to reflect on the year that has been and to set some goals for next term for your family, self and children.
Have a wonderful holiday break,
Bridget Bradley

Last Wednesday, Casey from Keep Australia Beautiful came to our school to talk about how we can keep our planet clean. He talked to us about the different types of rubbish and what bins they go in, and how we can recycle, reuse and reduce. We talked about how bad landfills are for the environment and how we don’t have infinite space. We also talked about what you put in the compost bin and how it gets reused to be turned into mulch and gets used for many things. After the talk, we went onto the oval and played a rubbish sorting game.
Thank you to Mrs Kilburn for organising this incursion for the students.

Talk like a Pirate Day - Years 3 & 4
Year 3 and 4 took part in ‘Talk Like a Pirate Day’ on Wednesday. The children participated in a number of ‘Pirate’ themed activities based on Literacy, Maths, Problem Solving and Drama. These included a Reader’s Theatre, learning pirate vocabulary such as landlubber, shiver me timbers, me hearties, booty and Jolly Roger and a treasure hunt based on a number of riddles that the children had to decipher, 6 tokens had to be found and handed into the Captain and her first mate in order to receive the ‘treasure’. Pirate jokes were shared and many were made to ‘Walk The Plank!' A great deal of fun was had by all including Captain Crispin, Captain Marsh and first Mate Farley. The day finished with a pirate cake and cupcakes that were made by Will Robinson’s grandmother. They were absolutely amazing and we were all incredibly grateful.
Q: Why are pirates called Pirates?
A: Because they arrr!!
Q: Why couldn’t the pirates play cards?
A: Because the pirate was standing on the deck.
Jennie Marsh and Jade Crispin
