Dear Parents and Carers,
Last night, our Community Council held our second meeting for this year. Sarah Meier from CE General Counsel and Governance, Risk and Policy Manager, was guest speaker. Sarah provided clarity about the new Charter for Canberra-Goulburn Diocese Community Councils and the role of the Community Council in CECG schools. Community Councils are advisory in nature and have no authority over the day-to-day operation or management of the school, they make decisions in relation to fundraising. During the meeting, the Council set the school fundraising focus for the next two years. As the current play equipment is mostly unsuitable for the Infants to use due to height restrictions, the decision was made to fundraise for the purchase of new play equipment for the Infants, which will provide St Bede’s with play equipment for both Primary and Infants students. As this will be a costly exercise, it will a two-year focus, which will hopefully be supplemented by community grants.
Congratulations to our Fundraising Committee on a fantastic result with fundraising at the Braidwood Show and Camp Draft. We are extremely grateful to Kristi Morrison as organiser and our wonderful parents, who volunteered their time to set up and assist. Our bulb fundraiser is going well and tickets in our Easter raffle are selling fast! If you have not yet purchased any bulbs there is still time. If you have sold your Easter raffle tickets and would like another book, please contact the front office. Alternatively, adults or students can purchase tickets at school as Kristi Morrison will be at school in the courtyard tomorrow, selling tickets before and after assembly.
Don’t forget our working bee is this Friday from 2pm to 5:30pm followed by a Barbecue and refreshments for all our helpers and families. Thank you to Richard Bunn for coordinating this. There are many jobs to be done before the onset of winter. This is always a great community event and we hope to see many of you there!
What a fantastic job our canteen volunteers do each fortnight for St Bede's! We would not have canteen without the support of our wonderful grandparents and parents who work tirelessly for our school. If you can spare some time to volunteer, please contact the front office. Our final day for canteen this term is Monday April 1.
Goodluck to our Year 3 to 6 students who are participating in the Rotary Public Speaking Competition next Tuesday at Bungendore. The children have worked very hard to write their speeeches and prepare for this event. What a wonderful opportunity for them to represent our school!
Next term, on Friday May 3 (week one) St Bede’s will be hosting the Northern Regions Cross Country Carnival at the Braidwood Showground. We will be requiring volunteers to assist with marshalling for events and for the canteen. If you can assist as an official, please contact Katie Tooth and if you are able to assist with the canteen, please contact Kristi Morrison.
Yesterday, I had the pleasure of attending a function to receive an award for a grant from Dargues Mine. This grant of $2000 has assisted us with the purchase of novels to support the new NSW English Syllabus and the literacy program that has been successfully implemented into Years 3-6 this year. We are extremely grateful to the Community Council who supplemented the grant at the end of 2023 from fundraising with an additional $6000 toward these resources.
God Bless
Principal
Dear Parents and Carers,
Next week is Holy Week, a sacred time in our Church. St Bede’s will be participating in Holy Week Liturgies. Each class will present a different event of Holy Week. Students are asked to please bring some items to dress up as if they were from Jesus’ time (e.g. tea towels or sheets). We invite families to join us for our Holy Week Liturgies. Please note, this year we will be spreading the liturgies over the week. A timetable is included below. We hope you can join us!
This year, we will offer Sacramental Programs through our Parish. We are grateful to Father Tony, Father Josh, Cathy Ffrench and Ann Tracey for their continued support. Year 3 will complete their Reconciliation and Holy Communion. Year 5/6 will complete their Confirmation (offered every second year). We are in the final stages of confirming dates, but we expect Reconciliation to be held in Term 2 followed by Holy Communion and Confirmation in Term 3. Information will be sent home in the coming weeks.
The annual St Bede’s Easter Hat Parade will be running again this year. It will be on Thursday 28th March (Week 9) at 11:30am. We will walk down the main street, starting on the school side and crossing over at the bakery. We love seeing families lining the streets to cheer us on! A friendly reminder that all Easter Hats are to be made at home and sent in on the day. Thank you for your support with this.
Yours in faith,
Shaye Cooper
Loving God,
You love all that you have made.
As we walk the way of the cross,
May we know you more deeply,
And love you more dearly, and
Walk each day with you more closely.
In Jesus name we pray,
Amen.
A message from the Assistant Principal

St Bede's is a nut free school - This mean that students should not bring anything containing nuts to school, this includes Nutella, Peanut Butter and any other nut butters as we have several students who are highly allergic to these items.
The sharing of any food, lollies or confectionery is not encouraged.
- Please ensure that you have access to the Compass Parent Portal App and that you are using this portal for full day absences and checking for school messages. Be aware that as of next term our newsletter will be sent out through the app.

Parents are reminded to ensure that all your child's clothing is labelled very clearly. We have found that using a fabric pen on the collar or underside of your child's hat works well.
It is very hard to return clothing items to family's if there is no name.

We also thank the following volunteers for their assistance on the day - Jason Bremner, Sarah Paciorek, Melanie Bond, Kahla Harton, Katie Moran, Shaye Cooper, Rachel Farley, Kate Mitchell, Katie Lyons, Megan Hanlon, Fiona Noye, Shane Noye and Anthony Haraldson.

Our School Counsellor, Faith, will be visiting St Bede's on Wednesdays this year. Please see the below information regarding the service and how to make an appointment.
How to make an appointment.
If your child was seen by the school counsellor in previous years and you would like them to receive support in 2024, we require you to complete a new counselling registration form. The link can be found below. New referrals and requests can be made via the same link.
Parent consent for counselling continues to be required for all primary school students and will be sought and provided via email. Where parents are separated, we require the written consent of both parents. Once the referral has been received, I will contact parents on a Wednesday to further discuss the referral and determine whether school counselling can meet your child’s needs or if an external referral may be more appropriate.
Referrals can be submitted here https://mccg.my.site.com/housing/s/school-referral-form
Faith Costigan – Student and Family Counsellor.

Community Notice - Firefighters Wanted
Fire and Rescue NSW is offering women and men in Braidwood an opportunity to do something important for your community while receiving first class training and being paid.
On-call firefighters respond to local emergency incidents from their home or work and are notified by pager and mobile phone. It is a role where you can balance other work, study and family commitments while also protecting and supporting your local community.
Come and find out more at our station information evening.
At St Bede's canteen is run every 2nd Monday and the running of canteen is dependant on volunteers - we require at least 2 parent volunteers per canteen.
Please see the roster below - if you are able to help please contact Brenda, Trish or the office to have your name added.
If canteen is cancelled your child will need to bring their own lunch, as per a non canteen day.
If you have any questions about what is required to help on canteen please contact Brenda on 0438 275 032 or Trish on 0412 889507 or 02 48422027.
