Dear Parents and Carers,
This morning our students joined the parishioners to celebrate the feast day of St Bede. St. Bede was a dedicated scholar and an influence on us all to be dedicated learners and an inspiration for our school vision. Children and teachers are encouraged to continually reflect on themselves as learners and set challenging learning goals, so they can reach their full potential, as St Bede did. Congratulations to all our students who received a St Bede’s day award today. Each student received their award due to their zest to ‘Live, Love, Learn’ and positive mindset. A special thank you to Ms Shaye Cooper, REC for organising the liturgy and the parishioners and staff for attending and preparing the beautiful morning tea. It was lovely to see so many parishioners attend to celebrate this special day with us. The list of St Bede's awardees is in the REC news section.
As a reminder the NSW Education Act (1990) requires parents to ensure that children of compulsory school age attend school on each day that the school is open for instruction. If children are absent from school, parents are required to provide the school with an acceptable explanation within seven days of the absence. We know that when students are regularly absent from school, they fall behind in their learning which places them at educational risk. We understand that on occasion children may need to be absent from school. Justified reasons may include being sick, having an unavoidable medical appointment, being required to attend a recognised religious holiday or exceptional or urgent family circumstances (e.g., attending a funeral). All leave is granted by approval from the school principal and the principal may decline to accept an explanation that may be provided by a parent or carer if they do not believe the absence is in the best interest of the child. In these circumstances a student’s absence is recorded as unjustified. If your child is experiencing challenges with coming to school, we are here to help!
The children are loving the new soccer nets and they are being well used during break times, with all students from Kinder to Year 6 using them across the week and during PE lessons. We were very fortunate to have received a Wellbeing Boost Grant from the NSW Government for over $6000 to assist with the purchase of the nets and additional sports equipment.
Tomorrow, we have our annual Athletics Carnival. We are extremely grateful to Katie Tooth for all her organisation and to our parents who have volunteered to assist as officials. All students will be given a free sausage sizzle, courtesy of the Community Council. We thank Kristi Morrison and Sarah Hickey for their organisation of the barbeque. If you can assist tomorrow as an official, please contact Katie Tooth. We look forward to seeing all our students dressed in their sports uniform and house colours and don’t forget to dress up the teddy bears for the best dressed teddy bear. Go Red!

Security Cameras
With the recent instalment of external security cameras at St Bede’s, we have developed a Statement of Practice which outlines the principles and guidelines governing the use of security cameras on our school premises. It ensures transparency, accountability, and respect for privacy rights while enhancing our ability to monitor and safeguard our school community.
Please click here to review the Security Camera Statement of Practice.
This week, we recognise the Feast Day of our school saint – St Bede. Today we attended a Liturgy at the Church in honour of St Bede, followed by morning tea on the Church Lawns. Thank you to all the families and parishioners who joined us in this celebration. A special thank you to Trish Young for providing cupcakes for all students and to the staff, families and parishioners who provided morning tea.
In St Bede’s tradition, each year a student from each grade level receives ‘The St Bede’s Award’. This award recognises students who demonstrate Christian leadership and dedication to their studies – much like St Bede did! The awards were presented at our St Bede’s Feast Day Liturgy.
We congratulate our 2024 award recipients:
- Kinder – Evelyn Paciorek
- Year 1 – Kyrie Klay Sanchez
- Year 2 – Aurelia Buzby
- Year 3 – Archer Watson
- Year 4 – Eden Bunn

Yours in faith,
Shaye Cooper
Dear God,
I know you are with me and love me.
God of mercy, you inspired St Bede with the love of education. Help me to learn by the example of St Bede and be enlightened by your wisdom.
May our school year be full of wonderful learning opportunities that help prepare us for life beyond school.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
Amen.

When ordering book club and paying by cash, please ensure that the entire order form is returned to the school and that the order form includes your child's name, class number, contact number of a parent.
The order form and cash should be placed in a sealed envelope, with the child's name and book club written on the front of the envelope.
We have had an issue with the last order - the book club coordinator has received and order with cash and part of an order form, with no name, class level nor phone number.
If you or your child has placed an order and paid cash in the last catalogue - please contact the office. We are keen to make sure that this order gets to the right child.

Parents are reminded to ensure that all your child's clothing is labelled very clearly. We have found that using a fabric pen on the collar or underside of your child's hat works well.
It is very hard to return clothing items to families if there is no name.
- Please keep an eye on our FaceBook page for the latest happenings around the school. St Bede's FaceBook page
- We are asking that parents remind their children to pack a school hat each day, please! Hats are required on the playground every day. Our no hat months are June and July outside of these months it is a uniform requirement that hats are worn. The school has a limited supply of hats that we can borrow.

Our School Counsellor, Faith, will be visiting St Bede's on Wednesdays this year. Please see the below information regarding the service and how to make an appointment.
How to make an appointment.
If your child was seen by the school counsellor in previous years and you would like them to receive support in 2024, we require you to complete a new counselling registration form. The link can be found below. New referrals and requests can be made via the same link.
Parent consent for counselling continues to be required for all primary school students and will be sought and provided via email. Where parents are separated, we require the written consent of both parents. Once the referral has been received, I will contact parents on a Wednesday to further discuss the referral and determine whether school counselling can meet your child’s needs or if an external referral may be more appropriate.
Referrals can be submitted here https://mccg.my.site.com/housing/s/school-referral-form

St Bede's is a Nut Free school
St Bede's is a nut free school - This mean that students should not bring anything containing nuts to school, this includes Nutella, Peanut Butter and any other nut butters as we have several students who are highly allergic to these items.
The sharing of any food, lollies or confectionery is not encouraged.
Unwell Students (Cough, runny nose, fever, vomiting etc.) If your child is unwell please keep them at home. If your child has vomitted the night before, please keep them at home, even if you think they are okay. The NSW Health guidelines suggest that students who have vomitted should be kept at home for 48 hours to help prevent the spread of illness through the school. Please see the guideline from NSW Health regarding vomiting. https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/Infectious/factsheets/Factsheets/viral-gastroenteritis.pdf
