Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to Term 2. I hope that you and your families were able to find some time to relax over the Easter break. Staff spent Monday continuing to prepare for the term ahead and completing training to assist student wellbeing. It was fantastic to see so many students proudly represent the school in the Anzac Day March. Truly a great reflection St. Bedes involvement in and strengthening of community bonds post covid.
Staffing Term 2
At this stage Mrs. McPake is not returning until Term 3 and Ms. Teggert has secured work closer to her home and next Monday will be her final day at St Bedes. To ensure that Year 4 have a continuity in their teaching, Mrs Marsh will teach Tuesday, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Mrs Grant will be in with Year 4 on Mondays and Fridays. Mrs Grant is looking forward to meeting the Year 4 parents at the upcoming Learning Journey’s. Year 6 will have more teaching from Mrs Tooth. To allow this to happen, I will be teaching years 3-6 Physical Education. They will be taught in stage groups.
St. Bede’s is also mindful that with the coming winter, there is always the possibility of staff (and student!) absences. With this in mind, the goal is to ensure that as many as possible classes always have a dedicated teacher in front of them. Splitting a class is the last option. To support this, students may from time to time miss out on library and Science on set days to ensure classes are covered. These missed lessons will be covered on a later date.
The changes in staffing has resulted in Years 3-6 having their PE day moved to Mondays as of week 2. Infants will remain the same and Friday will require sports uniforms to be worn for Sport.
Term 2 goals
This week I shared my term goals with the staff, they included continuing to implement the Catalyst program and High Impact Teaching Practices in every classroom every day. As part of the programe we are looking to implement Spelling Mastery across the primary school to support the Infants Intilit program
We will also look to renew the “Gottcha” element of the school Positive Behaviours reward system. To do this over the next 2 weeks we will seek student, parent and staff input. Also bring the weekly school awards into part of the Positive Behaviours system incorporating the school vision of Live, Love and Learn.
With the third house well established, the next goal is to move toward each house to choose a local animal as their totem. This is hoped to promote house identity and promote house spirit.
Enrolment Period
May is the month that the school begins its enrollment period. Please if you are aware of any families wishing to join the fantastic St. Bedes community please ask them to contact the front office to arrange an interview for a tour.
As always if you have any feedback or concerns please contact the school and have a conversation with a staff member. Your concerns are important to us and starting the conversation is one step in continuing to partner with you to provide the most holistic education we can for your child.
Yours sincerely
Mark Chifley
Acting Principal
