Dear Parents and Carers,
Next week we celebrate the Feast Day of our school patron St Bede.
St. Bede was born in 672 CE at Jarrow, England. He had the combination of being a genius and a scholar. He was extremely experienced in all the sciences of his times: philosophy, astronomy, mathematics, grammar, literacy, church history, the lives of the saints and especially, holy Scripture (also known as the Bible). Another of his legacies was the translation of the Gospel of St. John from Latin to English to allow in his words “of breaking the word to the poor and unlearned” to share the example of the life of Jesus with the poor. While St. Bede may have lived over 1,300 years ago. He is a fantastic example for our school community as he was ever occupied with learning, writing, and teaching.
Next week all members of the St Bede's community are invited to join us in celebrating the life of St. Bede next at 10am next Tuesday at the parish mass. Also next Friday students are asked to dress as someone who inspires them and will have a BBQ lunch, tabloid sports in the afternoon to celebrate St. Bede’s life.
Another great community day is the school’s Athletics Carnival. This will be held next Thursday at the Rec Ground and promises to be a great day of fun and for future olympians at the 2032 Brisbane Olympic Games.
Another future sporting opportunity is next Monday when the school will host past Wallaby player Andrew Walker. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in some rugby clinics. All students are asked to wear their sports uniform to allow them to participate.
We welcome Mrs Wolfe who has joined our community as a relief teacher. Mrs Wolfe has a wealth of experience and brings enthusiasm and energy to the classroom. She is a great asset to the school.
Last week I was anonymously nominated to participate in the Vinnies CEO Sleepout. If you are able to donate to this worthy cause please do. https://www.ceosleepout.org.au/fundraisers/markchifley/act
Just a reminder that if your child feels unwell in the morning they are not likely to improve across the school day. While Mrs Hewitt does her best to redirect students back to class. Parents of students who present with an illness and don't improve will be asked to collect their child.
As always if you have any concerns please speak to your child's classroom teacher and if need be please speak to me.
Kind regards
Dear Parents,
Last week we celebrated Mother's Day with a breakfast and liturgy hosted by some Year 5 students, with Kindergarten also sharing a reflection on why they love their mums. We hope all of the St Bede's mothers, grandmothers and those who take on the role of a mother had a lovely day. A huge thank you to Rachel and Kristi for organising and running the Mother's Day stall.
Next Tuesday, 23rd May 2023, we will be attending Mass to celebrate St Bede's Feast Day. All parents and carers are invited to attend. During the Mass our 2023 St Bede Awards will be presented to recipients.

It was a glorious autumn day in Crookwell last Friday for the Northern Region Cross Country carnival. Well done to the 24 students who represented our school, and as always, a big thank you to the parents and grandparents who supported their children on the day. They ran extremely well and cheered each other throughout the day. We have three students moving on to the Archdiocesan championships in Canberra tomorrow. Good luck to Sonny (4th), Pippa (2nd) and Archer (1st). Run well kids!
Congratulations to Evie (Year 6) who gained selection in the Canberra Goulburn Archdiocese Girls Soccer team. She will now attend the MacKillop selection trials next Friday. Good luck Evie!

Library News and Health Education
Health Education
As a portion of our Health Education, the students from K-6 will be participating in a Fire Education program. Our students will learn about Fire Safety and the effects of being aware of personal safety, safety in the home, staying safe while learning and playing at school, and the role of safety service. Through practical application, students will develop help-seeking skills and adopt strategies that help to keep themselves and others healthy, safe, and active. They will explore health and safety messages and describe how they relate to decision-making and health-related behaviours.
We are working closely with our local Fire services personnel and our learning experiences will involve the Fire engines visiting St Bede’s as well as a visit to our local Fire Station. Our Fire Station Visit is scheduled for Tuesday, 13th June. All classes will visit on a rotational basis on this day.

Dear Parents and Carers
We hope all our St Bede’s Community Mothers, Grandmothers and Motherly figures enjoyed their special day on Sunday! It was a beautiful and enjoyable Mother’s Day breakfast and liturgy last Thursday morning, thank you to all the St Bede’s teacher’s, staff and students. Following on from this the Community Council Mother’s Day stall was a great success, with some lovely gifts and the children enjoying the experience. The Community Council would like to thank Kristi M and Shaye C for all of their organising, and Rachel F, Sarah P, Marita F and the year 6 students for helping on the stall.
And a big thank you to Bees R Us and Len Mutton & Co for their very generous donations and support with the gifts for the stall.
At the Community Council meeting last week, we had a lot to discuss, as the Fundraising Sub Committee have held their first meeting and generated some great ideas. The first major fundraiser is the upcoming Bunnings Sausage Sizzle to be held in Fyshwick on Saturday 10th June 9am – 4pm.
We are looking for volunteers to assist in time slots: 10-12pm, 12-2pm and 2-4pm. If you are able to assist, please contact Kristi M on 0410 902 965. There will also be a raffle with some great prizes that will be running in conjunction with the Bunnings Sausage sizzle, so please watch for further details over the next week.
Brenda and Trish are doing a wonderful job with canteen, the children (and parents!) are enjoying the lunches , thank you very much ladies! We are always looking for volunteers to help with canteen, if you are able to volunteer please see notice later in the newsletter.
If anyone would like further information, please don’t hesitate to contact myself or other members of the Community Council.
