Dear Parents and Carers,
Last Saturday it was wonderful to see some of our Year 3 students make their first Reconciliation. We congratulate our students and Mrs Sue Anderson who prepared the children on behalf of the parish and we thank Ms Shaye Cooper, REC and Fr Sijo for their assistance and their parents and families for their support.
How lucky were we to be blessed with such beautiful weather for the athletics carnival last Friday. The children had a great day and enjoyed participating in the events, cheering on their house and dressing themselves and their teddies in house colours. We thank Mrs Katie Tooth for her amazing organisation of the carnival, staff for assisting and our parents who were officials and helped transport equipment. Another example of the wonderful community we have at St Bede’s. The winning house will be announced and ribbons will be presented, at assembly this Friday, commencing at 2:40pm.
It is wonderful to see that most of our children are wearing the correct winter uniform. Just a reminder - girls should be wearing navy tights with their tunics, no leggings or white socks. Students are not required to wear hats in June and July, but they may wear a navy or black beanie.
School photos will be taken on Tuesday, June 17. All students will be required to wear their full school winter uniform. If your child does not have a tie or is missing part of the uniform, please do not leave it until the last moment to purchase from the clothing pool. Kahla Harton voluntarily runs our second-hand uniform shop and she does an amazing job keeping up with orders. Please contact the front office if you require an order form. Alternatively, Muttons have ample supplies of uniform available for purchase.
This week we celebrated Reconciliation Week. The theme this year was “Bridging Now to Next’’. The children participated in a range of activities in their class groups that were culturally respectful and faith aligned. We thank Ms Hayley Millsom for preparing the activities.
Next week is Sabbath week. During Sabbath week students have a break from homework routines but instead are encouraged to read a book, have family time, play outside, engage in board games, card games etc. We hope all families have enjoyed this time together.
As the term progresses, teachers are experiencing higher levels of absentee rates and children arriving late to school. Parents, please ensure that all children arrive at school between 8:30am and 8:55am every day so they are organised, focused and not missing out on any significant learning.
Have a great week!
God bless

Parent Teacher Interviews – Week 9
Parent Teacher Interviews will be held in Week 9, and bookings are now open via the Compass Parent Portal.
We ask that all parents book an interview, as these meetings are an important part of our Semester 1 reporting process. They provide a valuable opportunity to discuss your child’s progress, learning goals, and how we can continue to support them at school.
Donate a Lunch - Deliver a Smile
Thank you to the many families who have supported this new initiative. In the Hot Food section of the Canteen Menu you will find the option to donate a lunch to a child in our school community. Together we can share kindness - one lunch at a time.
Please see our Qkr! Tip of the Week
Have a wonderful end to the week!

Souper Hero Day – Friday 27 June
Calling all heroes... it's time to suit up for a cause!
On Friday 27 June (Week 9), St Bede’s is hosting Souper Hero Day! Students are invited to dress as their favourite superheroes and bring along a tin of soup to donate to the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal.
Every can collected will help warm the hearts (and bellies!) of those in need in our local community. Please check that donations have at least 6 months before expiry. Let’s be heroes of hope this winter—one tin at a time!

All students should now be in full winter uniform.
At St Bede's we are very proud of our students uniform, it is what identifies us within the community of Braidwood, and it is important that the uniform is worn correctly. This includes all students wearing ties, black shoes, hats or navy/black beanies, long sleeved shirts, blue trousers or tunic. Students wearing the winter tunic should be wearing navy blue tights. Winter jackets need to be navy blue. There should be no variation on the school's uniform - the uniform policy can be downloaded via the attached link or copies of the uniform policy can be found in the school office.
Also a reminder that all uniform items should have your child's name, this make it easier to return lost items to the correct owner.
- Parents are reminded to check that their child's name is on all their clothing - it is impossible to return clothes with no name.
- The school has a 2nd hand uniform pool. If you would like any uniform items please call into the office to complete an order form or alternatively email the office with your order. You will be contacted once the order has been filled. Please note that as the uniform pool relies on donations from parents, we do not have a full range of items or sizes. Any families who have uniforms that they no longer need, please consider donating these back to the school, these can be left at the office. Thank you
- Len Mutton and Co are the schools official uniform supplier. They are located in the main street or phone 0248422446 or email lenmutton@bigpond.com
School Counsellor
Due to unforeseen circumstances, Faith is unable to continue to be our school counsellor and her last day was this week. We thank Faith for the year's that she has been here and her friendly and professional attitude.
Marymead are continuing to look for a replacement Counsellor for us. Meanwhile parents can still complete referrals via the below link, and where possible support will be via their telehealth system.
Referrals can be submitted here

During Week 5, our school community came together to commemorate National Reconciliation Week (27 May – 3 June), embracing this year’s theme:
“Bridging Now to Next.” This theme invited us to reflect on the past, act in the present, and walk together toward a more just and united future.
Across all grades, students participated in a range of meaningful learning experiences that helped deepen their understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures, and perspectives.
Highlights included:
- First Nations Tabloid Sports, where students enjoyed traditional Aboriginal games, promoting connection, teamwork, and appreciation for cultural practices.
- Making Lemon Myrtle Biscuits, exploring native bush food knowledge and sustainable land use, while enjoying a delicious and hands-on learning opportunity.
- Song learning and storytelling, including reading books by First Nations authors and learning a traditional song that will feature in our upcoming NAIDOC liturgy.
- Creative projects, such as message sticks, healing gardens, timeline posters, and symbolic artworks exploring the themes of unity, care, and moving forward together.
Through stories, song, discussion, art and play, our students were empowered to listen deeply, act kindly, and grow in their understanding of reconciliation as a shared journey. I want to take the opportunity to thank all staff and students at St Bede's for their efforts to honour truth-telling, respect, and justice during this important week.
Hayley Millsom
First Nations Contact Teacher.
- Please be mindful of what containers you send to school with your child. Please do not send ring pull cans (like the lids on small tuna cans etc.) or glass containers as these present a cutting hazard to children. Please open the can at home and place in a plastic container.
- We would ask that soft drinks are not sent to school with your children as we do try to encourage a healthy alternative like water.
- If your child is unwell, please place their absence through the Compass Parent Portal App. There is no need to then notify the office once you have placed it into the Compass app.
St Bede's is a Nut Free school
St Bede's is a nut free school - This mean that students should not bring anything containing nuts to school, this includes Nutella, Peanut Butter and any other nut butters as we have several students who are highly allergic to these items.
The sharing of any food, lollies or confectionery is not encouraged.
Healthy Lunchbox Nutrition Snippets
At St Bede's canteen is run every 2nd Monday. The running of canteen is dependant on volunteers - we require at least 2 parent volunteers per canteen.
Please see the roster below - if you are able to help please contact Brenda, Trish or the office to have your name added.
If canteen is cancelled your child will need to bring their own lunch, as per a non canteen day.
If you have any questions about what is required to help on canteen please contact Brenda on 0438 275 032 or Trish on 0412 889507 or 02 48422027.
Please note that any parents volunteering for canteen must have a current Working With Children Check (WWCC). WWCC can be applied for through Service NSW (link) applying for a WWCC. Once you have received the clearance please send a copy of the email + your date of birth to the office as the clearances are checked.
